This workshop is meant to equip beginners in Z-Score training with the necessary baseline skills to begin working with their software and equipment immediately.

Days 1 and 2 will focus on 4 channel Z-Score training. Protocols provided will be compatible with both the 4 channel Atlantis and the 19 channel Discovery amplifier.

Days 3 will review 19 channel Z-Score training options for clinicians using the Discovery amplifier.

[Day 1] Introductory Skills for Neurofeedback Providers:
Focus on 4 Channel Training

The first day is geared toward providers who are new to neurofeedback and will review the hands-on procedures of setting up and running neurofeedback sessions using 4 channel PZOK training.

9:00am – 11:00am

  • Overview of the 10-20 system
  • Effective placement of EEG sensors on the scalp for 4 channel PZOK
  • Initial set up and review of client folders in BrainAvatar 4.0 software

11:15am – 12:30pm

  • Brief discussion of principles behind PZOK training approach and review of setup and administration of introductory protocol

12:30pm – 1:30pm – LUNCH

1:30pm – 3:30pm

  • Attendees practice setting up and running brief training sessions on each other under supervision
  • Discussion regarding how to adjust training thresholds

3:45pm – 6:00pm

  • Overview of how to select and adjust various feedback options
  • Additional practice setting up and running brief training sessions under supervision

[Day 2] Clinical Principles of Z-score Training Using the PZOK Approach

Day two will consist of an in-depth review of the functional principles of PZOK training, clarification of the elements unique to PZOK and why it fundamentally differs from other approaches to Live Z-Score neurofeedback. We will also cover the core clinical considerations to evaluation, treatment planning, and protocol adaptation when using PZOK neurofeedback.

Focus will be on integrating clinical concepts to make treatment decisions and some software manipulation for practical implementation may occur.

  • Overview of the current state of Z-score training in light of recent developments in both technology and clinical understanding

11:15am – 12:30pm

  • Clinical assessment options and protocol design for 4 channel PZOK training when using a 4 channel Atlantis amplifier as sole device for EEG collection

12:30pm – 1:30pm – LUNCH

1:30pm – 3:30pm

  • Discussion of the strengths of 4 channel training and treatment planning considerations

3:45pm – 6:00pm

  • Clinical assessment options and protocol design for 4 channel PZOK training when using a 20 or 24 channel Discovery amplifier as a device for EEG collection

[Day 3] Surface PZOKUL Neurofeedback Using Up to 19
Channels of EEG

Day three will include a detailed overview of surface PZOKUL training including an introduction to electro-cap placement for incoming practitioners, a review of how to operate a 6, 9, and 19 channel surface PZOKUL protocol and will include discussion around when to select from the different protocols based on clinical consideration.

9:00am – 11:00am

  • Brief review of principles of surface PZOK
  • Introduction of 6, 9, 19 channel settings files
  • How to set up training folders and adapt settings within the folders for individual client treatment priorities

11:15am – 12:30 pm

  • Overview of evaluation and assessment options for 19 channel surface PZOK
  • Discussion of clinical considerations when selecting between protocols

12:30pm – 1:30pm – LUNCH

1:30pm – 2:30pm

  • Practicum for electro-cap placement

2:30pm – 3:30pm

  • Set up and run a brief training session using a 6, 9 or 19 channel surface PZOK settings file

3:45pm – 6:00pm

  • Further discussion regarding adapting protocol designs based on treatment priorities
  • Set up and run a brief training session using a 6, 9 or 19 channel surface PZOK settings file
