Key findings
- Heart coherence, alpha power and alpha coherence increased during meditation
- Parietal peak alpha frequency slowed
- Alpha measures rose in step with heart coherence
Healthy volunteers who completed eight weeks of autogenic meditation training had heart rhythm and EEG recorded during meditation. Heart coherence, EEG alpha power and alpha coherence rose during meditation, and alpha activity increased in step with heart coherence, suggesting heart coherence as a marker of the meditative state.
