Key findings
- High-frequency TENS reduced acute heat-pain ratings
- QEEG and physiological measures matched the pain ratings
An engineering study of a TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) system for relieving acute heat pain in healthy volunteers, checked against pain ratings, oxygen saturation, pulse and QEEG. With high-frequency TENS, pain was rated mild rather than moderate, and the physiological and QEEG measures agreed.
