Key findings
- Control training first generalized to the discrimination task
- Discrimination training did not generalize to control
- Combined training was no better than either
Participants trained either to control their alpha rhythm (standard neurofeedback) or to recognize when it was high or low (discrimination), then switched, or split time between both. Learning control first carried over to discrimination, but not the other way round, and mixing the two did not help.
