Key findings

  • SMR training improved familiarity-based memory
  • Upper-alpha training improved controlled recollection
  • The two protocols affected different memory processes

A double-blind, sham-controlled study of whether neurofeedback can improve memory. Healthy adults trained either upper alpha, SMR or a sham protocol for ten sessions. SMR training improved automatic, familiarity-based memory, while upper-alpha training improved strategic, controlled recollection.
