Key findings
- EEG + fNIRS fusion beat EEG alone by 3.4% and fNIRS alone by 11% in accuracy
- Frontal alpha and oxygenated-haemoglobin changes were the key features
A method study that combined EEG and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) over the prefrontal cortex to detect mental stress, induced by timed mental arithmetic with negative feedback and confirmed by a saliva test. Fusing the two signals classified stress more accurately than either one alone.
