Key findings
- Significant improvement in insomnia severity, sleep quality and sleep efficiency
- Excess delta and beta power at baseline fell after training
- Both protocols worked equally well; all participants ended as normal sleepers
Adults with insomnia were randomly assigned to one of two Z-score neurofeedback protocols: a modified SMR protocol or an individually designed protocol guided by sequential QEEG. Both groups improved markedly in sleep quality, insomnia severity and quality of life, and all finished as normal sleepers; the simpler SMR protocol was chosen for future work.
