- Simultaneous 27-channel EEG and fMRI, auditory oddball, LORETA
Key findings
- Early N1/P2 responses were weaker inside the scanner; the P300 was not
- LORETA sources and fMRI activations agreed in most regions
- Combining the two gives both where and when brain activity occurs
A methods study recording EEG and fMRI at the same time while healthy volunteers detected rare target tones, to combine fMRI's spatial precision with EEG's timing precision. It checked how much the scanner degrades EEG signals, then compared where LORETA placed the EEG sources with where fMRI found activity. The two largely agreed, supporting LORETA as a way to locate EEG activity.
